Giving feedback to other classmates on their narrative essays was very refreshing. To be able to hand off your own writing to be critiqued by a peer can be very unsettling. Everyone has a moment where they are afraid to be judged or looked down upon because of their work. In class though, everyone gave great input and wrote very encouraging notes and advice. There is no shame when it comes to giving your own work out to fellow classmates anymore. When I was able to critique my classmate’s essays, I was blown away at all of the talented writers in this class. It gave me a feeling a confidence that the same people that wrote a great essay are now giving me feedback on my own work on how to write my essay more effectively.

Paris: An Arch, A Ferris Wheel, & A Masterpiece

{life} A Beautiful Journey

I love the French! What other country takes eating so seriously? On my fourth day in Paris during my 2007 summer in Europe, my friend Teresa and I were strolling down the sidewalk from our apartment to the metro, eating our daily breakfast of pastries (heavenly!), when a runner passed us and wished us both “Bon appetit!” I think I was destined to live in this country.

We took the metro to the Jardin des Tuileries and walked through the beautiful and peaceful gardens. I wish I had had more time in Paris because I would have loved to spend a morning or afternoon sitting in one of the city’s gardens, by a pond or under a tree, reading or writing or chatting or sleeping. These gardens were made for those pastimes!

The City of Light – Paris, France

Oblique / Travel

Paris, the cosmopolitan capital of France, is an old favourite for many travellers. Dubbed the City of Light (la Ville Lumière), Paris has the reputation of being the world’s most beautiful and romantic city, and it is one where, in my opinion, the reality is more than the myth.

Tree-lined boulevards and charming café terraces contribute to the city’s allure, while magnificent public monuments and iconic landmarks add grandeur and remind me of the city’s historical association – a large part of the city, including the River Seine, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Even though it is steeped in history, Paris has stayed “current” and remained highly influential in contemporary art, culture and fashion. Today, the city is home to a number of the world’s finest and most luxurious fashion designers and brands.
